Mid Century Dining Table by Merrow Associates
A very rare extending dining table to seat 10 people in Rosewood, with chromed steel base. Designed by Richard Young for Merrow Associates in the early 1960's. The table is in excellent condition throughout, the pull mechanism runs on metal runners with bearings and runs smoothly. The leaves sit into place with a brass alignment pin and the table sits flat and true. The top has been hand polished using heatproof french polish
Merrow Associates were a team of three people in London who started producing high quality design furniture in the mid 1950's, they used the best cuts rosewood veneer and very high quality chroming on their steel framework putting this together with skilled craftsmanship. coming up with some lovely designs, these were sold to order through Harrods and Heal's on Tottenham court Road amongst other high end furniture retail outlets.
Merrow Associates was started by Richard Young, he studied at the Royal Art Academy in Copenhagen where he picked up simple Danish designs, this shines through on most of his furniture however the company was very short lived only lasting around 12 years!
