French Art Deco Figured Walnut Two-Door Buffet, Circa 1930

Art Deco Walnut Buffet

A handsome French Art Deco two-door buffet, dating to circa 1930, with beautifully figured walnut veneers, elegant rounded detailing and the confident proportions that make furniture from this period so appealing. Decorative yet highly practical, this is a striking storage piece that would sit comfortably in a dining room, living room, entrance hall or sophisticated contemporary interior.

The cabinet is finished in figured walnut, with the natural movement of the grain creating an attractive decorative surface across the front. The rich tones and variation in the veneer give the piece considerable warmth and depth, while the rounded corners and carefully considered detailing soften its otherwise architectural form.

The two doors are fitted with decorative handles and retain their working locks, an appealing practical detail. Behind the doors, the cabinet provides useful internal storage with shelves and tea drawers, making it suitable for organising dining accessories, table linen, glassware or other household items.

The cabinet stands on a characteristic shaped base associated with French Art Deco furniture of the period. This raised, sculptural foundation gives the piece a pleasing stance and contributes to its distinctive silhouette, elevating it beyond a purely functional storage cabinet.

Dating to around 1930, the buffet reflects the French Art Deco taste for richly figured timber, strong outlines and subtle decorative flourishes. It has the presence to work as a focal piece without being overly imposing, and the walnut finish makes it easy to combine with both antique and modern furnishings.

With its attractive veneer, useful interior arrangement and elegant period styling, this is a versatile example of French Art Deco cabinet furniture. It would be particularly effective in a dining room, where it could be used to store entertaining essentials, or in a living space as a decorative and practical side cabinet.
