Art Deco Chest of Drawers
A stylish French Art Deco chest of drawers dating to circa 1930, beautifully showcasing the rich colouring of palisander and the elegant proportions that make French furniture of this period so desirable. With its warm, lustrous timber, decorative brass handles and distinctive shaped base, this is a characterful piece that would bring an immediate sense of period sophistication to a bedroom, dressing room or carefully considered interior.
The chest is finished throughout in rosewood, displaying attractive natural grain and rich reddish-brown tones. The horizontal grain across the drawer fronts creates a pleasing visual rhythm, while the rounded corners soften the overall silhouette and give the piece the distinctive sculptural quality associated with French Art Deco furniture.
The drawers are fitted with decorative brass handles, providing a handsome contrast against the deeper tones of the . Their understated metallic finish complements the timber without distracting from its natural beauty.
Particular attention has been paid to the construction, with dovetail-jointed drawers reflecting traditional cabinetmaking techniques. The chest stands on an ornate, shaped base characteristic of French Art Deco design, lifting the body of the piece and giving it a distinctive, well-balanced appearance.
Dating to around 1930, it captures the period's appealing combination of strong geometry, luxurious materials and decorative detailing. Its compact proportions also make it a practical choice where storage is required without overwhelming the room.
The chest has been fully restored and professionally polished and is presented in excellent condition. The polished rosewood brings out the depth and variation of the grain, while the brass handles and sculptural base complete a particularly attractive example of period furniture.
