Art Deco Writing Table

Léon Jalot, 1930s

A refined and beautifully constructed French Art Deco writing table by Léon Jalot, dating from the 1930s. Crafted with a satinwood top and a fruitwood frame, the table is distinguished by its strong sculptural silhouette, fluting to the legs, and Zebrano wood inlay panels to each drawer front and apron.

Carved scroll detailing at the top of each leg introduces a classical elegance, while the design remains clean and decisively modern. The craftsmanship is further affirmed by the LJ signature stamp, which is present both inside the kneehole and along the right-hand panel.

This Art Deco desk has been fully restored and sympathetically polished, allowing the richness of the timbers and decorative contrasts to shine. A superb choice for a refined study, home office, or as a statement writing table in a contemporary interior.

About Léon Jallot

Léon Jallot (1874–1967) was a pivotal figure in early 20th-century French design, known for his refined transition from Art Nouveau to Art Deco. Initially the artistic director for Maison Majorelle, he established his own workshop in 1903, producing furniture, textiles, and decorative objects that merged traditional French craftsmanship with modernist elegance. Jallot’s work is celebrated for its meticulous detailing, innovative use of exotic woods, and harmonious proportions. His influence extended to his son, Maurice Jallot, with whom he collaborated in later years, cementing the Jallot name in the legacy of Parisian decorative arts.

Testimonials

★★★★★

Handsome sideboard bought in mid December, and delivered to Germany 10 days later (despite chaos at Dover). The sellers made this a neat straightforward transaction, and wrapped it, for the journey, with TLC.

I recently brought an Art Deco dressing table from the furniture rooms. The piece was exactly as described and Im very pleased with it. They were extremely easy to deal with, prompt with their replies, and the delivery arrived exactly when arranged. Very good service all round

We bought two French leather club chairs from Toby. The chairs are great and good value, and they were very reliable and organised sellers. However the best thing was that - without being asked - they offered for us to check the condition of the chairs when they were delivered and to take them back if we were not happy. This was incredibly fair. In the end the chairs were exactly as described.
