A striking Italian Art Deco Macassar desk dating from the 1950s, showcasing the dramatic grain and luxurious materials of the period. Featuring a newly fitted tooled leather writing surface and distinctive gilded handles with Bakelite centres, the desk combines bold architectural design with practical storage. Crafted in richly figured Macassar veneers, the desk displays the strong linear movement and contrast that make this timber so desirable in Art Deco furniture. The deep tones and bold figuring run continuously across the top, sides and drawer fronts, creating a beautifully balanced and visually striking piece.

The top is inset with a newly fitted tooled leather writing surface, carefully chosen to complement the warmth of the Macassar veneers while providing a comfortable and practical workspace. The leather is finished with decorative tooling in keeping with the period style.

The desk is arranged with seven drawers, including a central frieze drawer and three drawers to each pedestal, providing generous and well-organised storage. Each drawer retains its attractive gilded handles with Bakelite centres, a detail commonly found on quality Italian furniture of the late Art Deco and early mid-century period.

Supported by solid pedestal ends with a recessed kneehole, the desk has a strong architectural presence while remaining highly functional as a working desk. The piece has been fully restored and is presented in lovely condition throughout, ready for use within a study, office or interior setting.
