An elegant Italian block-front commode finished in traditional lacca povera, dating to around 1860 and made as a later interpretation of an 18th-century original. Rich in colour and surface detail, this piece displays the warmth and decorative charm for which Italian painted furniture of this type is particularly admired.

The commode features a gently shaped block-front façade fitted with three long drawers, each running smoothly and well aligned. The painted decoration is beautifully preserved, with floral detailing and soft tonal variation across the surface, giving the piece depth and character without appearing overworked. The handles and escutcheons are later additions, as originally pieces of this type would not have been fitted with applied handles, instead opening via central key.

Standing on shaped cabriole legs and retaining excellent proportions, the commode has undergone light, sympathetic restoration and is presented in excellent condition for its age. It works equally well as a decorative accent piece or functional storage, bringing colour and elegance to a bedroom, hallway, or refined interior.
