Barye was born in Paris and began his career as a goldsmith and fame did not come to him until in his 60’s when he was made professor of drawings at the museum of natural history

The 19th century French sculptor Antoine-Louis Barye is renowned for his bronze sculptures of animals and mythological figures. His output was prolific and he created more than 500 works during his lifetime.
