Epstein Furniture

Harry and Lou Epstein

The furniture company was originally founded by Polish immigrants that moved to East London in the 1890’s and became famous for quality Art Deco furniture from the 1920’s to the 1950s.

Most of their furniture items were special order and custom made using the finest quality materials such as burr maple, sycamore or walnut veneer. The design of the famous ‘cloud’ furniture was used on there dining chairs, armchairs and sofa suites this was making them stand out from the crowd

By the end of the Second World War, they had showrooms in London, Manchester and Glasgow. Their trademark style became conservative Art Deco with most of their pieces being made from bleached walnut.

During the Art Deco period the Epstein brothers traded under a variety of business names, both individually and in partnership with one or other of their brothers. Art Deco pieces from the first half of the 20th century were not signed. From the 1950s, some pieces were labelled ‘H. & L. Epstein Ltd’ or ‘Epstein & Goldman’.

A sideboard or cocktail cabinet produced by Epstein does not only look good, but its impressive quality gives it longevity with care the cabinets will last a few lifetimes so can be handed down through generations.
