God Bless My Granny
When I was a child in the seventies, I remember fondly the summer vacations spent at my Grandmothers house, nestled in the outskirts of London. She was the type of woman who always put others in higher regard. Quietly caring for the rest of the world and with a warm heart welcoming all those who entered her home.
She was a fabulous artist whiling away her retirement, paintbrush in hand with an ever-expanding collection of canvasses traipsing up the stairs, marching head long in the direction of the spare bedroom. Whilst the mouth watering aroma of a freshly baked treat pervaded her surroundings (I know that sounds so, ‘Little House on the Prairie’ but, its true).
If I could sum up my Grandmother and capture her essence in one single object, then that would have to be the ‘Poole pottery’ vase that she kept all her paintbrushes in. It was flaming orange/red (Delphis collection) and was organically decorated with as much flare as my Grandmother creatively and quietly exuded.
Objects define the character of their owners, often without them even realising and at The Furniture Rooms we stock a wide range of vintage West German Pottery and Art Glass that just takes me back in an instant to those wonderful days (and I don’t care if they are rose tinted).
